Insta360’s Latest Action Cam Features Three Unique Lenses

In recent years, smartphones have understood the necessity of having multiple camera lenses for users who want the experience of professional photography with the accessibility of the phones in their pockets. But the leaps and bounds provided by cell phone makers only serve to parallel those made by the camera industry itself. A couple of years ago, Insta360 released its flagship 360 action camera with a pair of swappable wide-angle lenses. Now, innovating the action cam once again, Insta360 releases its ONE RS.

An upgrade on the company’s previous ONE R, the ONE RS gives a boost to both audio and visual quality, increased battery life, and a few more features. The new 4K Boost lens captures 4K footage at 60fps and has the ability to utilize a 6K cinematic widescreen at up to 25fps. It can also capture stills at 48 megapixels. The accompanying firmware is backward-compatible for owners of the previous ONE R, and you also have the option of swapping in a Leica 1-inch 5.3K lens.

The “basic” 360 lens offers a 360-degree view in 5.7K resolution with horizontal lock and a selfie-stick attachment that, upon playback, gets rendered out of the image entirely. The active HDR and FlowState stabilization make capturing action even smoother without needing to edit, and the updated touchscreen allows you to preset your favorite settings. The accompanying app offers built-in slow motion and panoramic modes as well, among others.

With 16 feet of water resistance and a design made to ward off overheating, the Insta360 ONE RS is a no-brainer when it comes to action cams. The camera is available via Insta360’s online store, with an array of bundle options, starting at $550 for the Twin Edition (i.e., no Leica 1-inch lens) and going up to $848 for the Trio Edition, which features all three lenses and a few accessories.
