Apple’s M1 Chip-Equipped iPad Air Is Its Most Powerful and Versatile Version Yet

In April of 2010, Apple unveiled its very first tablet model with its first-generation iPad 1. This not only served as the catalyst for an entirely new product space in the tech segment but also represented the first in an ever-evolving line of smart tablets which has most recently culminated in the debut of an all-new iPad Air for 2022.

Touted by Apple Inc. as the “most powerful and versatile iPad Air ever,” the company’s latest tablet benefits from a number of key technological advancements. In addition to a new cell that allows for true all-day battery life, this also includes Apple’s game-changing M1 chip, an 8-core CPU delivering 60% faster performance, an 8-core GPU with graphics performance that offers double the speed as the new model’s predecessor, and a 16-core Neural Engine that brings advanced machine learning functions.

The iPad Air also packs a 10.9” Liquid Retina display with a whopping 3.8 million pixels, 500 nits of brightness, and a P3 wide color gamut — all fortified beneath an anti-reflective screen coating. Even more impressive is this cutting-edge tablet’s camera setup, with features a 12MP ultra-wide front-facing unit and a 2MP wide rear camera that feature Apple’s Center Stage and are capable of capturing 4K video. Boasting 5G-connectivity as well as eSIM and Wi-Fi 6 support, the iPad Air can access speeds of up to 3.5Gbp. What’s more, a new USB-C port affords data transfers of up to 10gbps — twice as fast as the previous gen. Lastly, Touch ID has been integrated into the tablet’s top button.

Apple Inc’s latest iPad Air will become available for preorder on March 11th before its global release a week later on the 18th. Available in five color options — Space Gray, Pink, Blue, Purple, and Starlight — the 2022 iPad Air starts at $599 for the 64GB WiFi version and goes up to $749 for the WiFi-equipped 256GB model. Alongside the iPad Air itself, Apple has also released a myriad of new accessories including a smart keyboard folio and the 2nd-gen Apple Pencil.
