The average menswear enthusiast is well aware of how popular MARNI’s fanciful mohair cardigans are, but that’s merely one element of the luxe label’s catalog. While they may not be the most accessible garments, the Italian fashion house is looking to put its sense of design within reach of a broader audience through a surprising collaboration with UNIQLO.
This head-turning collaboration fuses the designer brand’s palatial color palettes and unique motifs with the quintessential Japanese clothier’s modestly-priced silhouettes. There is no shortage of worthwhile pieces from this new collection, but there are some very particular standouts. From spring-appropriate collared tops coated in floral patterns and checkered pleated trousers to picnic basket-adjacent utility jackets and two-tone packable parkas, this seasonal capsule has it all.
While this runway-approved collection is remarkably stylish, it’s worth noting that this isn’t the first time that UNIQLO has dipped its toes in the high fashion world. Having previously collaborated with the likes of JW Anderson and UNDERCOVER, in addition to its respective annual collections with Jil Sander and Christophe Lemaire, the Japanese label has proven that it has what it takes to design with the best of them, and we can only hope that this new partnership with MARNI becomes a consistent one.
This joyous joint effort is slated to release through UNIQLO’s website on May 26, with pieces ranging in price from $13 to $90 — that’s right, you can acquire legitimate MARNI-designed clothing for less than $100.
