So when Jason Momoa’s lifestyle brand On The Roam recently teamed up with Harley-Davidson to deliver a modern reissue of an iconic mid-century biker jacket, the The Real McCoy’s was the obvious go-to choice to bring this leather garment to life.
Modeled directly after the classic Buco D-pocket “Cycle Champ” jacket that was originally produced from the 1940s through the ‘60s, the The Real McCoy’s x H-D Collections x On The Roam Cycle Champ 1940’s Leather Jacket features a classic D-pocket configuration that’s most in line with the earliest of these mid-century garments. The Real McCoy’s — which also worked with Harley back in the ‘90s when the MoCo produced range of biker jackets based on some of its archival designs — has brought this classic reissue to life using premium materials and a level of meticulous craftsmanship that can only be achieved via hand-worked, small-batch production carried out by seasoned artisans, craftspeople, and other experts.
Cut from vegetable-tanned horsehide leather, the jacket features an asymmetrical front zip closure, a zippered D-pocket, and snap flat front pockets. Designed by Kent Tsujimoto, the jacket has also been bestowed with shoulder epaulets, custom horsehide leather zipper pulls, and bespoke brass rivets and stud detailing throughout. Fitted with a contrasting rayon sateen lining, the inside of the jacket also sports a single interior welt pocket and branded woven labels from The Real McCoy’s, Harley-Davidson, and On The Roam. This heirloom-quality jacket is also being produced in extremely limited numbers — and is expected to sell out very quickly. And, while it admittedly might not come cheap, this garment is far more than just a mere leather biker jacket, and instead represents a unique piece of Harley-Davidson’s history.
