Though they might not get the attention that many of the other big brands get, Mizuno has been on a low-key tear lately. The brand has been digging through its archives and handing its wildest running platforms to some of the most creative designers in the space. Enter Han Kjøbenhavn, the Copenhagen label with a knack for making Scandinavian design feel a little sinister (and a repeat Mizuno collaborator at this point). For their newest joint effort, the pair took aim at the brand’s burliest trail silhouette, resulting in the Mizuno x Han Kjøbenhavn Wave Mujin TL.
Fog, Dust, and Garbage Bags
According to Mizuno, the shoe draws on materials that embody the suburban city including everything from fog, dust, and…garbage bags.
Normally we’d roll our eyes at a mood board built from literal trash, but they’re definitely onto something here, and the execution is solid. The crinkled, semi-translucent silver upper actually looks like something salvaged from a job site (in the best way possible, of course), while blacked-out overlays, a rubberized downstrap, and rope-style laces keep the whole affair feeling elevated.
The Ultralight Cult’s Favorite Fabric
That crumpled upper isn’t just a texture play, either. It’s cut from Dyneema Composite Fabric, the featherweight laminate we’ve expressed our affinity for over the past decade plus.
You already know the marketing here; pound for pound, the stuff is stronger than steel, and it’s completely weatherproof while still weighing next to nothing.
Riding on Michelin Rubber
Mizuno’s signature Wave plate handles stability down low, U4icX foam softens the ride, and the deep-lugged outsole comes courtesy of Michelin.
Listed at 415 grams, it’s even a hair lighter than the standard Mujin TL. The sneaker also anchors a wider 10-piece Fall/Winter capsule from the duo, spanning a translucent shell jacket, gilet, tights, and more, all cut from the same brooding cloth.
