There’s been a big push these days for upcycled clothing, and for good reason. 85% of apparel textiles produced each year end up in landfill. Brands like The North Face have taken huge strides in making a difference, beginning with its Renewed program launched in 2018, which releases new and refurbished clothing and gear out of customer trade-ins.
Now, the Bay Area-based outdoor apparel brand has debuted REMADE, a new Renewed collection of one-off pieces that take swatches from unrepairable clothing and mix and match them with different North Face silhouettes. For example, to repair a khaki 1996 Retro Nuptse Jacket, the company has added a patch from a camo-patterned jacket in the front. From there, the brand-new piece was cleaned, inspected, and factory-certified for release.
Several other men’s and women’s Nuptse Jackets are available in the collection in different sizes and colors, as well as new versions of Thermobail silhouettes. However, the series isn’t just limited to clothing. More options are available for those looking for gear such as the REMADE Canister, Tote, or Hip Pack — each of which is Frankensteined together from unrepairable clothing pieces.
