Since 2006, Nike’s Vomero line has captivated distance runners and casual enthusiasts alike. While the Vomero 5 may be one of the most popular sneakers around right now, the performance giant’s latest iteration, the Nike Vomero 18, doesn’t merely honor its predecessors; it redefines what maximum comfort can feel like.

Kicking things off from the top, the new trainer’s breathable engineered mesh upper offers a secure yet adaptable fit and even features haptic print for added durability. And since comfort comes first, it’s rounded out with an uber-plush tongue. Making a stride toward improved performance, Nike self-proclaims it to be the “most cushioned ride,” which comes as no surprise once we look beneath the construction.

After gaining input from actual runners, Nike put their thoughts to the test by designing a shoe that’s bolstered enough to alleviate the pressure of underfoot impact. Lo and behold, the Vomero 18 combines two of the brand’s most innovative foam technologies—Zoom X and React X—to create a remarkably comfortable session. The midsole is constructed of ZoomX and encased in ReactX foam, delivering plush cushioning with remarkable energy return.

Thanks to this striking combination, it boasts the tallest stack height in the lineup’s history, measuring in at 46mm — that’s 6mm taller than the recent model. These plush materials sit atop a rugged outsole composed of high-abrasion rubber, designed with a strategic pod-like pattern to ensure greater traction on high-mile runs. Additionally, it features increased rocker geometry to ensure a smooth heel-to-toe transition.

As part of Nike’s Move to Zero journey, the sustainable approach to designing these shoes using an array of recycled materials moves the brand closer to its goal of omitting all sources of carbon and waste.
