Nike forever altered the footwear landscape when it released the original Air Jordan 1 sneaker in the Spring of ’85, kicking off a long and ever-growing line of shoes that continues to this day. While there are now several dozen generations of Jays, the original Air Jordan 1 continues to stand as one of the most iconic and sought-after silhouettes in the sneaker realm. And the continued popularity of the J1s has now prompted Nike to take the legendary Peter Moore-penned silhouette and turn it into a high-performance cleat for the gridiron, resulting in the Nike Jordan 1 Mid TD Football Cleat.
Though these Jordan-style cleats starting appearing on NFL players during the 2019-2020 season, the general public is now able to get its hands on what very well may be the most highly-anticipated cleats in recent history — if not of all time.
Rather than attempting to create an AJ1-inspired pair of football cleats, Nike has instead opted to take the silhouette and place it atop a cleated outsole. While it mostly stays true to the original Jordan 1’s overall design and silhouette, a few minor changes have been made in order to make the cleats more conducive to use on the gridiron — such as deleting the shoe tongue locks, slightly modifying the toe, and adding abrasion-resistant synthetic leather details to the upper. And, with several NFL players choosing to wear these cleats, there’s absolutely no doubt as to just how well they perform out on the field.
Beneath its external midsole, the Jordan 1 Mid TD Football Cleat features an aggressive cleated outsole design with 14 studs with ultra-wide placements in order to bolster the wearer’s ability to make quick direction changes on the field. Alongside being delivered in the legendary Chicago version (seen here), Nike has also opted to introduce the Jordan 1 football cleats in several other variations of the most iconic J1 color schemes including the Game Royal, Neutral Grey, Shadow, and Panda colorways.
The Nike Jordan 1 Mid TD Football Cleat is available now in six different color options. Pricing for the Jordan 1 football cleat has been set at $150.
