While Nike’s sportswear is known worldwide for its unmatched style and quality, the outdoor-oriented sublabel ACG isn’t quite as popular among everyday shoppers. ACG’s blend of rugged gear and modern style has earned it quite the cult following, however, and considering they’ve been around since the ‘80s, they’re a true legend and pioneer in the technical apparel scene. The label’s footwear, in particular, has always been a highlight, and now they’re back with the Nike ACG Mountain Fly 2 Low GORE-TEX, a waterproof take on the crag-inspired silhouette.
Building off of the OG ACG Mountain Fly 2 Lows, this GORE-TEX clad update is ready for any situation. Starting up top, these rugged runners have a lightweight mesh upper that’s reinforced with GORE-TEX details to keep your feet dry no matter where you are. Inside, you’re getting the same foam midsole and lightweight plate from the OG silhouette for added comfort, and rubber sidewalls to protect your feet while tackling the trails. You’re also getting a toggle lace system for easy adjustments and to keep your laces from jostling around while you’re on the go, with a semi-gusseted tongue for easy wearing. Lastly, they’re finished with a sticky rubber outsole with large lugs that reach the toe for reliable traction (and a unique look).
Nike ACG’s climbing/mountain roots are such an integral part of the label’s design philosophy, and the crag-like traction on the outsoles (with lugs inspired by mountain bike tires) demonstrates this perfectly. This pattern adds to the futuristic look of the silhouette while also providing support while tackling the city, the mountains, or wherever these kicks take you.
