nanamica is no stranger to designing well-made, weather-ready gear, deeming its first-ever joint effort with Converse fool-proof. The two brands’ collaborative take on a pair of high-top Chucks sees the iconic sneaker fitted with a GORE-TEX lining for trusty outdoor protection.

The Japanese imprint decided to do away with the silhouette’s typical construction by using sustainable materials like 14-ounce recycled cotton canvas and rubber to design its outsole and the inimitable upper. But, of course, what’s most important is its waterproof capabilities, which make their way down to its GORE-TEX-lined gusseted tongue, promoting enhanced breathability while keeping water out, in addition to pesky bits of debris you may encounter on your rainy day escapades.

Color-wise, the forthcoming release is about as minimal as it gets, as the Chucks have been fully doused in a shade of dark navy right down to its shoelaces. That said, it still sits on a pair of neutral-colored soles for perfect contrast, resulting in a color palette brand that the brand touts as “distinctly nanamica.” With Converse celebrating its 115th anniversary, we expect to see several popular boutiques deliver their own spin on the iconic shoemaker’s design, with this being one of the most functional examples to date.

nanamica’s first collab with Converse will be available through each brand’s webshop starting March 17 for¥22,000 (~$162).
