Oakley’s have always been a staple here in Southern California, and that goes all the way back to our childhood in the ’90s. But there’s probably never been a worse time to want a pair of those same ’90s Oakleys. Clean examples of the 1994 Eye Jacket trade hands for multiples of their original sticker, and the brand’s archival MUZM reissues tend to vanish before the brand’s IG announcements (it makes no sense, really).
So instead of letting the resale sharks keep feasting, Oakley has restocked the family tree itself with the FW26 Jackets drop, headlined by the Portal Jacket and Cage Jacket.
A Whole Jacket Wardrobe
The FW26 lineup is technically four frames deep, though only two of them are sunglasses you can buy today. The Cage Jacket carries the familiar high-wrap silhouette and adds what Oakley calls “lateral airflow control,” which is essentially vents that keep your lenses from fogging mid-run.
The Portal Jacket is the true newcomer, channeling the organic curves of the brand’s ’90s frames at the friendliest price in the family. Rounding out the roster, the Scar-inspired Suture Coat arrives later this year, while the Neoture SQ handles prescription duty with early-2000s geometry.
Through the Portal
The Portal Jacket certainly feel like vintage Oakley, but it doesn’t clone any single frame from the archive. Instead, it distills that whole era (think Eye Jacket, Straight Jacket, and Minute) into one high-wrap shape with a 4×6 twin toric lens, and curves in two directions to hug your face.
Frames are injection-molded from Oakley’s O-Matter thermoplastic, so they’ll survive years of being tossed on dashboards, and every variant ships with Prizm lenses. There’s even a little “USA Assembled” badge riding on the temple for the made-in-America crowd.
Dressed to Match
And because Oakley never half-commits to a vibe, the eyewear arrives alongside the revived Japan Field Gear Line, a technical apparel capsule designed in Japan. The FGL Stealth Sweater 2.0, Stealth Jacket 2.0, and Stealth Pants 2.0 pair a little too well with a silver Cage Jacket, which we imagine is no coincidence here with Oakley.
