Jeff Goldblum & Jacques Marie Mage’s Fly Sunglasses Channel the Actor’s ’80s-Era Style

Jeff Goldblum had been acting for well over a decade before he landed the starring role in The Fly (he was already in big projects like The Big Chill, Annie Hall, and Death Wish), but it was David Cronenberg’s 1986 masterpiece that turned him into a household name. Nevertheless, the actor has always managed to walk that fine line between A-lister and cult star.

That’s probably why he and Jacques Marie Mage are such kindred spirits. Since 2015, French designer Jérôme Mage’s eyewear brand has simultaneously become the most coveted in the world and also an IYKYK favorite thriving on limited-edition drops that made people excited about sunglasses again. It’s that very balance that has made them second to none in the category.

Goldblum and JMM have teamed up a handful of times over the years, but now they’re tackling the star’s iconic entomological role with a new pair of shades inspired by ’80s-era Goldblum.

A Collaboration Seven Years Deep

This is the third chapter in a partnership that started around 2018 when Goldblum became an early adopter of the brand, wearing models like the 1962 and Dealan before JMM formalized things with their first co-designed capsule in 2021. That collection introduced the rectangular Jeff frame, which became both a signature piece for the actor and one of JMM’s most sought-after designs. The new Fly follows suit but looks backward to the mid-’80s, pulling from the rounded rectangular frames Goldblum wore during his breakthrough period.

Pretty Fly

The Fly’s silhouette sits somewhere between chunky and refined, with a rounded rectangular lens shape that gets grounded by a sculpturally beveled brow. The frames are handcrafted in Japan from 10mm plant-based acetate, while JMM’s signature arrowhead front pins show up here in either sterling silver or 18K dark gold plating, depending on which of the five colorways you pick.

The exposed wirecores — visible along the temples and finished in silver palladium or dark gold — give the Fly the sort of technical elegance that’s become a hallmark of the brand’s work. Then there are the custom 7-barrel hinges with hairline detailing. The double-laminated temples (triple-laminated on the Bloodstone variant) give the interior a contrasting color pop that’s quite subtle.

Five Distinct Personalities

Five different colorways are available. Perhaps our favorite of the bunch, the Volvox combines polished crystal green frames with olive Armorlite 4-base lenses for an earthy, versatile look. We also love the London, which nods to classic tortoiseshell with dark brown frames and orange lenses. The most exclusive pair is the Silver (already sold out), with just 50 pieces available, constructed with a metallic frame and chrome mirro lenses. However, these are decidedly the least retro-looking of the bunch.
