Few workwear labels have as storied a history as Danner, which is why our pals at Huckberry are big fans (much like we are here at HICONSUMPTION). They’re such big fans, in fact, that they teamed up with the brand on the new Mountain Moc 917, a reinvention of a classic Danner silhouette.
Taking heavy inspiration from an iconic pair of Danners (the Canoe Moc) that were originally released in the late ‘60s, the Huckberry x Danner Mountain Moc 917 is a reinvention that serves as a love letter to both brands, taking the waxed canvas material from the iconic Flint and Tinder Waxed Canvas Trucker Jacket and blending it with Danner’s full-grain leather. It’s lined with GORE-TEX for waterproof protection, boasts a removable Ortholite footbed (with three layers of open-cell polyurethane foam for plenty of cushioning), and is equipped with a Vibram SPE midsole made from rubberized EVA. You’re also getting a Vibram 917 outsole exclusively made for Danner boots with the label’s XS Trek rubber for traction, and a pair of lace options for a custom look. Like other Danner boots, these are backed by a 365-day warranty and eligible for Danner’s recrafting services.
Danner got its start when the founder (Charles Danner) moved to Oregon during the Great Depression with the goal of making the most durable and reliable work boots for loggers in the area. The label still makes its boots by hand in Portland over a century later, and continues to innovate with modern silhouettes and new takes on old classics. With this reinvention here, the duo has managed to capture that classic Danner look and build quality while giving the silhouette an updated edge.
