As the streetwear scene continues to grow, collaborations between labels that previously seemed unlikely are becoming much more commonplace. On top of that, brands that historically focused on simple and functional gear have been letting loose a little, and launching sub-labels to cater to a more city-friendly style. Carhartt WIP is the perfect example of this, and the label’s collabs always blend style and utility in a uniquely Carhartt way, much like the 990v1 collab with New Balance that dropped last year. Wasting no time, the duo is back with the Carhartt WIP x New Balance 990v6s “Sculpture Center” shoes.
Up top, we’re getting a suede upper in three shades of brown (very Carhartt), accented by grey mesh to achieve that classic 990 look, with the equally classic N logo on the sides, and a 990 stamp on the heel. The tongue tag is clad in dark green with a Carhartt WIP logo, and underneath, there’s an Encap midsole in beige and cream. Closing it out, the heels denote that these kicks are “Made in USA,” honoring Carhartt’s legendary status as a heritage American workwear brand.
Although the 990v6s only came out last year, New Balance has hit the ground running, with a handful of collabs reimaging the shoes already (like Action Bronson’s silhouette that dropped this summer). There’s no official word on the price at the time of writing, but if the duo’s previous collab is anything to go off of (the 990v1s that dropped last year), we can expect something in the $200 range. These New Balance collabs also sell out almost immediately, so stay vigilant if you’re interested.
