Getting the right running shoes is no simple task, and brands like adidas know how important it is. From outfitting Olympic legends like Jesse Owens with spiked running shoes, to providing the everyday runner with a reliable pair of kicks, the brand has had nearly a century of experience crafting some of the best shoes in the game. The Three Stripes have transcended sportswear over the years and become somewhat of a fashion industry staple, but it’s always exciting when we see another running release, especially if it’s pushing the industry forward. And the label is aiming to do with the adidas SWITCH FWDs, a runner-focused shoe with a unique silhouette.
The shoe features many innovative designs and functions, but the midsole is a big highlight – it’s not just any EVA midsole, as voids have been included that can collapse and expand while you’re running, helping with weight transfer and providing better forward motion. It also looks really interesting, with oval spaces lining the side in a chunky construction, blending with the mesh upper (which has added windows to increase breathability). This funky midsole works with the TPU plate for more stable forefoot-to-midfoot transitions, along with the Continental outsole. Continental’s rubber and adidas’ construction provides enhanced traction, which is especially helpful in wet conditions.
adidas Running’s Global product manager Mili Seiffert stated that it took years of testing athletes across every skill level to design the new technology in this shoe, and runners from all backgrounds are sure to appreciate the outcome. At launch, the men’s version will only have one colorway: Primary White and Wonder Blue with Lucid Lemon accents (the women’s version will have violet instead of blue).
The adidas SWITCH FWD will be available through select retailers and the adidas app on July 27th for €140 (~ $156).
