Just over a month ago, adidas tapped Prada for a mini-pouch-clad capsule that had thrown the fashion world for quite a loop. Now, it’s clear that the iconic German performancewear brand is looking to harp on this high-end spectrum for a while. With the three stripe’s joint effort with Gucci having just been revealed on the runway, there is no shortage of intrigue as to what we can expect from this collab.
As part of Gucci’s AW22 showcase at Milan Fashion Week, notable pieces featured everything from trefoil-embellished blazers to avant-garde fingerless gloves. While the outfits came in numbers, the extremely brief press release speaks equal volumes in and of itself, claiming that this partnership looks to fuse “the heritage and the creative codes of both brands.” It’s indisputable that there aren’t many names as prominent as either Gucci or adidas, which has been made clear most recently by the likes of Hollywood blockbusters and, as far as the latter is concerned, Kanye West, which makes this collision of worlds quite significant in the fashion space.
The world of high fashion and iconic sneakers have grown oddly synonymous, which has come as a result of countless other joint efforts across the space, courtesy of examples like Comme des Garçons and Nike or Reebok and Chanel. Moreover, adidas is no stranger to the concept either, having linked up with the likes of Missoni and Stella McCartney in the past, let alone the aforementioned Prada collection. And while those were intriguing in their own right, this joint effort with red-hot Gucci is arguably the brand’s biggest collab to date.
As it stands, the main question regarding this new joint effort is when we can expect pieces from it to hit the market. While there’s no form of information regarding that yet, be sure to download adidas’ CONFIRMED app for any future updates.
