With the technological advancements of running shoes continuing to grow seemingly with each passing year, adidas remains the label most associated with on-track achievement. Outfitting the legendary Jesse Owens for the 1936 Olympics, the athletic brand has continued to be at the cutting edge of the running world. Now looking for its sixth world record, adidas has debuted what looks to be its fastest running shoe yet.

The Adizero Adios Line
In 2008, marathoner Haile Gebrselassie set a world record of 2 hours, 3 minutes, and 59 seconds with a prototype pair of adidas Adizero Adios sneakers on his feet. From there, the entire lineup has claimed over 150 world records in total.
2020 marked the launch of the Adizero Adios Pro lineup, which took things even further, honing in on the professional athlete, and even consulting Olympic athletes for its construction. And then last year, the Pro Evo shoe debuted, with lightweight being the main focus, coming in at just 138g — 40% lighter than any other adidas shoe at the time. In total, the entire Pro range boasts 5 world records and 73 major road race wins.

Adidas Adizero Adios Pro 4
“Designed to break records,” the Adizero Adios Pro 4 weighs just 200g on average and comes with a slew of updates. Tested with consumers and top athletes in countries like the U.S., Japan, and Kenya, the running shoe takes inspiration from the Pro Evo with its new forefoot rocker point geometry, which starts its curve beneath the toes at the 60% point of the shoe to trigger forward momentum.
On top, the Pro 4 debuts the Lightlock upper, “a first-of-its-kind lightweight, one-way stretch woven mesh upper [paired] with internal locking bands for a snug and secure feeling when running at high speed.” Moreover, the new lacing system will bolster the locked-down fit when you take to the road.
Under your feet, you have the Lightstrike Pro midsole with softer and more lightweight cushioning, as well as a LightTraxion outsole for a mapped-out grip that adjusts materials based on strike pattern studies from top-tier athletes.
