The Air Jordan 1 is arguably the most recognizable silhouette in sneaker history. It has been the subject of countless makeovers, but the shoe’s initial inspiration tends to get overlooked — until now. To the delight of purists and OG sneakerheads, A Ma Maniére is releasing a limited pair of the influential Air Ship sneaker.
Unlike the original black-and-red color palette, this shoe’s upper is predominantly made of premium white leather, then dressed up with a royal blue swoosh, tongue, and lining. For added authenticity, it features an original Nike Air motif on the heel tab, while collaborative branding overtakes the tongue logo.
The Atlanta-bred boutique writes that its joint effort is inspired by “the deep struggle for the Black and Brown community to constantly prove itself in the face of doubt,” going to show that it serves as a benchmark for how clothiers should approach social issues.
Jordan pushed the envelope from every perspective when he came into the league, but one controversy that clouded his rookie campaign was his regulation-breaking sneakers. The black-and-red Air Ship silhouette was dubbed the “Banned” from that point on, serving as another element of His Airness’s mystique on and off the court. This new reinterpretation of those legendary shoes is limited to 2,300 pairs and is set to release on August 26 for $140.
