Founded in 1896 by Johann Abt, ABT Sportsline is an elite German tuning house that’s been wrenching on and upgrading cars for practically as long as automobiles have existed. And while ABT has primarily focused on improving the performance of sports cars for the last 120-something years, the Kempten-based company is now venturing into unchartered territory with its latest release, the ABT XNH — a kitted-out Volkswagen T6.1 van turned self-sufficient, high-end, dual-use camper.
Starting with a new T6.1, the donor vehicle is stripped down to the chassis, before seeing its frame extended by 15.75” — resulting in a wheelbase of 133.85” and an overall length of 208.8”. Powered by an upgradable 150-hp engine, the XNH seats five and sleeps four thanks to a Reimo table that converts into a sleeping bench, as well as a second bed in the camper’s SCA pop-top roof. Insulated using sheep’s wool and recycled materials, the interior of the camper boasts a suite of built-in shelves and cabinets, a Vaning kitchen module and spice rack, a brushed stainless steel sink, a 45-liter Dometic CRX 50 S compressor refrigerator, an auxiliary heating system with a remote control, and a Discover Pro nav system.
Cloaked in a custom paint job with a topo graphics package, the outside of the camper also features a Canning canopy with ambient lighting and a solar module that packs up to 352-Wp of power and feeds a 1,900-Wh Lithium battery pack. Riding on a set of gloss black-finished 18” ABT wheels shod in Goodyear Eagle F1 rubber, the entire rig is also sold with an included Fiskars N7 axe, an Amare kitchen knife, a Vanluv organizer, a custom XNH-finished KOOKOO MoriMori LED lantern and Bluetooth speaker, and large and small Auer packaging storage boxes, as well as an optional camp chair set, a Thule bike rack, a trailer hitch, and an upgraded Thule Omnistor 4200 awning.
