Though initially known for its self-balancing transportation devices, Segway has massively branched out since its inception in 1999, with the now-Chinese-owned outfit currently operating across a myriad of product spaces ranging from robotics to power sports. Despite an already robust catalog, Segway has now announced that it’s set its sights on the rapidly-expanding lightweight electric two-wheeler market with the reveal of its all-new Segway Xyber E-Bike.

Touted as an off-road sport performance e-bike, the Xyber blurs the lines between motorcycle, e-bike, and dirt bike. Revealed at the ongoing CES 2024 event in Vegas, this pedal-equipped e-bike takes aim squarely at existing lightweight EV two-wheelers from brands like SUPER73, Monday Motorbikes, and CAKE. The entire vehicle is constructed around a motorcycle-class double-cradle frame system that’s been outfitted with an inverted fork and a rear mono-shock that both afford 4.7” of travel. Sporting a sleek design, the e-bike capitalizes on ebikes’ lack of a gas tank and utilizes negative space in an interesting way, with cutouts sections and empty spaces in the frame. Equipped with a unique X-shaped headlight design — not unlike Brixton’s Crossfire lineup — the Xyber also features a flat scrambler-style seat, a set of fork guards, a factory-installed skid-plate, and a set of spoked wheels wrapped in custom ultra-wide tires.

Powering the Xyber is a single electric motor that cranks out an impressive 129ft-lbs of instantaneous torque – around 40ft-lbs more than Ducati’s latest Panigale V4 superbike. This impressive output ultimately allows the thing to reach 20mph from a standstill in 2.5 seconds. The motor draws from a battery pack that affords a range of just over 47 miles per charge. The Xyber’s frame is large enough to accommodate a second battery pack, resulting in a total of 1,140Wh and doubling its total range to approximately 95 miles. Thanks to the inclusion of a bicycle-style pedal setup, the Xyber can also be pedal-powered by its rider even if its battery — or batteries — are completely depleted.

Though pricing has yet to be revealed, the Segway Xyber E-Bike is slated to go on sale in the second half of 2024.
