With ground clearance of just 5.5” and 6.6” respectively, Tesla’s Model 3 and Model Y are far from conducive to off-roading in their stock form. However, with gobs of torque and an available advanced all-wheel-drive system, these electric vehicles undeniably boast decent go-anywhere potential — a fact recognized by aftermarket wheel and suspension specialist, PU-LABO, which has just debuted a newly-developed lifted off-road suspension kit for the carmaker’s Model Y and Model 3 vehicles.
Christened the “Model Traveler,” this Tesla off-road kit is comprised of more than 30 individual components, and uses a simple plug-and-play, bolt-on-style setup that requires no cutting or welding to install. Massively bolstering both the performance and durability of the vehicles’ suspension package, the Model Traveler kit features upper control arms and spindle gussets machined from 7075 aluminum billet, as well as lower control arms laser-cut from high-strength steel, a pair of rear toe-link arms, and a set of subframes composed of tubular 4130 Chromoly steel. Completing the package is a set of 2.5” coil-overs.
Transforming the Model 3 and Model Y from luxury commuter vehicles to bonafide go-anywhere EVs, PU-LABO’s new suspension package adds between 2.5” and 5” of lift, thanks to the kit’s ride height and compression damping being adjustable. It’s not only the Teslas’ ground clearance that’s been increased, as the kit also affords as much as 8” of suspension travel — a massive bump over the stock vehicles’ wheel travel. Tack on a set of fender flares, steel bumpers, and bead-lock-ready rims, and you’ve got one seriously capable all-electric off-roader.
The PU-LABO “Model Traveler” off-road suspension kit for the Tesla Model 3 and Tesla Model Y is available for order now, with pricing starting at $12,000. It is worth noting, however, that this kit is currently back-ordered, with the wait time currently set at around 45 days.
