Over the last few years, the lightweight ebike market has been inundated with a slew of startups, all vying for a piece of this increasingly popular space. One fledgling firm in this arena that’s managed to stand out from the crowd is Maeving, which has just debuted its inaugural offering with what the UK company is calling the RM1.
Taking inspiration from mid-century British-built standards, the RM1 is a bobber-style e-bike with an electric motor that affords a top speed of 45mph. Though each bike is sold with only one battery, the units are swappable, offer a range of roughly 40 miles, and can be fully recharged from any socket in 3.5 hours. Maeving also allows owners to purchase a second battery — for $1,340 when purchased with the e-bike — which doubles the RM1’s range to around 80 miles. Alongside a diamond-stitched bobber-style seat, other highlights on this retro-inspired two-wheeler include LED lighting throughout, bar-end mirrors, Bosch ABS, connectivity to a dedicated mobile app that includes tracking and geo-fencing capabilities, electronically-actuated compartments, and an instrumentation setup comprised of a single round speedometer with integrated warning lights.
The original RM1 release has already sold out, though interested parties can sign up to receive information on the next production batch in 2022. Produced in seven different color options, the Maeving RM1 is priced at £4,995 (or approximately $6,700), including tax and shipping. Protected by a two-year factory warranty, the RM1 is also available in a version with a restricted 28mph top speed.
