Whether you’re a casual observer or a full-blown gearhead, it’s hard to deny the appeal of a restomod. There’s something inherently romantic about restoring a classic car and then outfitting it with a contemporary flair to create a one-of-a-kind rolling work of art. The automotive space is lucky to have a bevy of restomod shops, but the one we’re focusing on today is a tried and true standout, Legacy Overland. The Connecticut shop is known for its incredible portfolio of Toyota Land Cruiser restomods, but it may have just outdone itself with its latest release.
At first glance, Legacy Overland’s 1971 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 V8 almost looks too perfect. Sure, the body style and design language of retro Land Cruisers are already iconic, but the folks at Legacy Overland went above and beyond the artistic call of duty when restoring this vehicle. As a nod to its former self, Legacy Overland kept some parts of the exterior the same, which add color and textural contrast to its metallic gray finish. The interior also sports a sleek finish with creative old-school accents throughout, such as an eight-ball gear shifter and extra gauges on the dash.
While this FJ may be gorgeous, its performance implies that it’s still meant to hit the trails. The designers at Legacy Overland upgraded this Land Cruiser’s engine with a Chevy 350 V8 and swapped its suspension and gearbox to feature a 600 CFM Holly carb that’s mated to a four-speed manual gearbox. It also features a custom-built roll cage, upgraded disc brakes for enhanced control, and a Warn M8000 winch and farm jack for extra versatility. Additional amenities include an under-dash air conditioning system and a premium sound system.
Whether you’re a fan of retro Land Cruisers or are just in the market for a rugged-yet-handsome-looking off-roader, this 1971 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 V8 is for you. Legacy Overland hasn’t released pricing details on the 1971 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 V8, but you can contact them on their website for more information.
