While the marques out of Italy and Sweden tend to receive most of the attention in the hypercar space, Hennessey Specialty Vehicles has proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that America is quite capable of churning out world-class performance models, as evidenced by the Texas-based tuner and marque’s Venom F5 hypercar. First unveiled in May of 2021, Hennessey’s flagship hypercar was initially limited to just two-dozen units — all of which were quickly snapped up — though the model’s immense success has ultimately prompted the company to introduce additional Venom F5 variants, the latest of which to break cover is the all-new Hennessey Venom F5-M Roadster.

The Basics

The Venom F5-M is a new version of Hennessey’s recently-released droptop hypercar variant that gains a few minor tweaks both inside and out. The most noteworthy update to the M-spec is the fact that it’s the Hennessey’s first contemporary hypercar model to feature a manual gearbox — and a gated one no less. Aside from receiving a stick shift, the vehicle otherwise retains the existing Venom F5 models’ world-class performance capabilities, acceleration time, and top speed.

The Powertrain

The Venom F5-M Roadster is powered by Hennessey’s in-house-developed twin-turbocharged 6.6-liter “Fury” V-8. Unlike the existing versions of this hypercar, the new M-spec gains a six-speed manual transmission. Despite its world-class performance capabilities and state-of-the-art nature, this hypercar actually delivers a pretty analog behind-the-wheel experience. Referred to by John Hennessey as “a true manual,” this new model features a clutch that’s linked to the transmission via a cable, rather than being regulated or controlled via some computer-driven interface.

Power & Performance

The manual Venom F5’s Fury V-8 makes the same 1,817hp and 1,617ft-lbs of torque as the existing versions of the USA-made hypercar. As such, its performance capabilities are almost certainly very similar to the existing models, which means a 311-mph top speed, and a 0-60mph time that’s probably a little slower than the automatic model’s 3.3-second time. With over 1,800hp on tap, the Venom F5-M Roadster also stands as the world’s most powerful manual transmission production car.

Updated Aero

It’s not only the manual six-speed gearbox that separates the Venom F5-M Roadster from the non-M models, as the new hypercar has also been bestowed with several updated aero elements on its suite of carbon fiber bodywork. Alongside new front canards, the aft-end of the vehicle also sports a new dorsal fin spanning 55”. This new aero element helps to further bolster stability as the hypercar nears its more-than-300-mph top speed.
