FORMAWERX Unveils a Limited Defender Key with a Bespoke-Engraved Plaque

Not long after releasing its Porsche 911 key the previous summer, FORMAWERX introduced a bespoke 303 stainless steel key for the Land Rover Defender in January of 2019. Modeled after the roofline and roofside windows of the vintage 110 Defender, this made-in-America key was an instant hit with Land Rover owners, ultimately prompting the Los Angeles-based custom key purveyor to introduce several special, limited-edition variants of the Defender key — the latest of which is the Legends Heritage Defender model.

Built to OEM specifications, the Legends Heritage Defender Key sports the same shape as the regular version of the key, though it has been bestowed with a black DLC coating before being adorned in a special VIN-style machined brass 360 alloy plaque that’s mounted to the key using Swiss watch screws. Each plaque is also custom-inscribed with the VIN, model, year, and engine of the buyer’s Defender.

Made to within Swiss watch standards, the key is machined from high-end Perpetua stainless steel and benefits from a physical vapor deposit treatment, as well. Designed in Los Angeles, the key is compatible with all Land Rover Defender models made from 1983 through 2017, as well as ’84 to ’87 Series III specimens. Interestingly, this model also works with ’74 to ’84 Austin Minis, ’76 to ’90 Lotus Esprits, and a trio of Maseratis including ’81 to ’84 BiTurbos, ’76 to ’86 Quattroportes, and ’86 to ’94 Spyders.

Available now in limited numbers, the FORMAWERX Legends Heritage Defender Key has been priced at $450. In addition to the actual key itself, this price also includes bespoke engraving services for each unit, as well as a FORMAWERX polishing cloth and a key piece preservation capsule.

Purchase: $450
