One of the American automotive industry’s most enigmatic names, DeLorean went from not having a new model in nearly 40 years to having two disparate DeLorean brands rivaling one another within just a few months.
Decades after the original DeLorean Motor Company went bankrupt, it rose from the ashes with its first vehicle, Alpha 5, back in May. The release was a long time coming and the car was designed by the same firm that designed the original DMC-12 back in the early ‘80s. Lo and behold, there would soon be another marque that would vie to be the definitive DeLorean brand.
Formed by Kat DeLorean, daughter of the original brand’s namesake, DeLorean Next Generation Motors (DNG) is a new company claiming direct lineage to John DeLorean. Its launch vehicle, Model-JZD, is set to be officially unveiled sometime in 2023, but for now, we can peek at some preliminary image renders, which showcase the ride’s gullwing doors and a silhouette that decidedly looks like a modern-day interpolation of the classic DMC-12.
There’s not a lot of information on the car just yet, but we do know that production is expected to begin in January for a late 2023 release. Additionally, DeLorean Next Generation Motors is hosting a contest to find a logo for the company as well as the Model-JZD’s badge. Head over to DNG’s website to learn more.
