After two decades of courtroom battles and copyright controversies, Hollywood’s most recognizable Mustang is finally free to roam again. Cinema Vehicle Services, the shop that originally built the hero cars for Jerry Bruckheimer’s 2000 remake of Gone in 60 Seconds, has announced the “Eleanor: Gone Again,” a limited run of 25 anniversary replicas that celebrate both the film’s 25th birthday and the end of a legal saga that kept the iconic Pepper Gray fastback locked away from enthusiasts all this time.

Not Just a Character

Just last month, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit delivered the decisive blow in a decades-long copyright dispute, ruling that Eleanor was merely a prop, not a character worthy of protection. It was distinct from, say, KITT from Knight Rider, a talking, thinking entity. Conversely, Eleanor was simply a beautifully modified ’67 Mustang that just so happened to steal every scene it appeared in.

A Hollywood Legend Returns Home

What sets these builds apart from the countless Eleanor tributes we’ve seen over the years is authenticity. Ray Claridge, the 76-year-old founder of Cinema Vehicle Services who came out of semi-retirement specifically for this project, is reuniting with many of the original team members who hand-built those first 11 prop cars back in 2000. Shop manager Sam Salerno, who led the original Eleanor builds for over three decades at CVS, is also back to oversee the craftsmanship.

The rushed six-week timeline that defined the original movie production isn’t an obstacle this time around. These anniversary builds will take their time, with each car starting life as a fully restored 1967 Mustang donor before receiving the full Eleanor treatment. That means Steve Stanford’s iconic bodywork, including those unmistakable fender flares and side-exit exhaust, plus modern upgrades that the movie cars didn’t have the luxury of.

Built for Both Show and Go

The base package centers around Ford’s current-generation Coyote 5.0L V8, pushing 480hp through a Tremec five-speed manual. But Cinema Vehicle Services understands that some collectors want more than movie-accurate specs. You can configure your vehicle with the Roush 427 cubic-inch V8 for 550hp, or go completely over the top with the supercharged Aluminator V8 that delivers 875hp.

Modern conveniences include push-button start, Bluetooth connectivity, and climate control, while performance upgrades encompass Total Control Products suspension, Wilwood brakes (four-piston standard, six-piston optional), and your choice of 17-inch cast aluminum or 18-inch forged wheels.

The interior maintains the factory Deluxe aesthetic with premium door panels and brushed aluminum accents, though buyers can upgrade from vinyl to leather for an additional cost.

Each car receives a numbered plaque under the hood and comes with a certificate of authenticity signed by the build team, showing that these are legit continuations of the original movie car built by the same hands 25 years ago.

Builds start at $500,000 and go up from there with various add-ons.
