Founded in 2011 by Carlo Borromeo and Fabio de Silva, BorromeodeSilva is an insanely-talented Milan-based design studio. And while you may not have heard of BorromeodeSilva, you’ll almost certainly be familiar with the design house’s work, as it’s responsible for penning what are unequivocally some of the most hyped and beautifully-designed restomods in recent history, including the Nardone Automotive Porsche 928 restomod, the Eccentrica Lamborghini Diablo restomod, and the Automobili Amos Futurista and Safarista Lancia Delta restomods. And Carlo and Fabio’s latest restomod further bolsters their already world-class portfolio, as the pair have just revealed their next automotive endeavor, a classic Ford Mustang all-terrain restomod dubbed the BorromeodeSilva Mustang STL1.

Though it maintains the same proportions, angles, and overall design as the original car, the STL1’s bodywork has been recreated in 1006 automotive-grade steel, which is both thicker and stronger than the classic Mustang’s. The entire roof of this safari-style muscle car has also been lopped off before being replaced with a custom hand-crafted tubular roll-cage that follows the iconic lines of the Mustang Fastback. The largely faithful recreation of the classic Mustang’s bodywork has been complemented via a custom reworked front bumper, rally-style fog lights, hood straps, and a perforated skid plate. Boasting a raised ride height, the STL1 also features a billet coil-over-equipped independent suspension setup with completely redesigned upper and lower A-frame-style tubular control arms. The entire vehicle now rides on a set of ten-arm Turbine wheels shod in all-terrain rubber.

Under the hood, BorromeodeSilva  have chosen the Road Runner V8 — a special upgraded version of Ford’s Coyote 5.0-liter mill that gains a forged steel crank, forged aluminum pistons, a revised camshaft, CNC-ported cylinder heads, and a high-flow intake manifold plucked from Ford’s 302R racecar. Originally introduced on the 2012 Boss 302 Mustang, this 5.0-liter V8 is good for 444hp and 380ft-lbs of torque. The Mustang has also been treated to a new limited-slip differential, an upgraded driveshaft, and a bespoke lightweight, high-performance exhaust system. Other modern touches include a manual rack and pinion steering box with tie rod ends and bushings, and drilled and slotted rotors front and rear, both of which are chomped down on by heavy-duty aluminum calipers. Though it takes a more minimalistic approach compared to BorromeodeSilva’s other restomod designs, the cabin of the STL1 has nonetheless been largely redesigned and now features custom sport seats, a custom pedal set, protected aircraft-style toggle switches, digital instrumentation, and a Alcantara-wrapped steering wheel.

As things currently stand, BorromeodeSilva is planning on building just a single Ford Mustang STL1 Restomod, though if the company sees enough demand, it may eventually produce a limited run of these all-terrain muscle cars. Interested parties can contact BorromeodeSilva on the studio’s website.
