While there aren’t many things more immersive than good old-fashioned conversation, BMW is looking to entertain backseat drivers more than ever before, and we can’t blame them. Neighboring the unveiling of their first-ever fully-M-badged EV model was the renowned German luxury experts‘ impeccable rear-seat entertainment system: a 31-inch, 8K display fully-integrated with Amazon Fire TV.
Simply labeled the Theater Screen, the marque’s latest announcement is about as good as any trip to the movies can get. Capable of streaming content in a trio of standardized aspect ratios, the Amazon Fire-powered touchscreen device is practically a theater all to yourself. Plus, in case a gorgeous TV in your car doesn’t sound immersive enough, it also features a Theater Mode that adjusts lighting, lowers the sunblinds, and adds surround sound from Bowers & Wilkins to the entertainment equation. Plus, BMW worked with existing collaborator (and film-scoring legend) Hans Zimmer to create the unique soundscapes for the Theater Screen, turning the experience into even more of a Hollywood production.
As you may have expected, no genuine word has surfaced in regards to when BMW’s Theater Screen will be made available to the public. However, just like everything else the forward-looking automaker showed off at CES over the past couple of days, photos are enough to get us excited about the direction the brand is heading.
