BMW Taps Vagabund Moto To Customize Its Line-Blurring CE 02

Originally presented as a concept in late 2021 before being unveiled in its nearly-identical final production form over the summer of 2023, BMW’s CE 02 is one of the most unique electric two-wheelers currently on the market with an idiosyncratic futuristic design that blurs the line between motorcycle and moped. From the moment it was unveiled, the Graz-based team behind world renowned customs outfit Vagabund Moto was instantly taken with the CE 02 and knew it was only a matter of time before Vagabund bestowed its signature treatment onto the new bike.

And roughly a year after its debut, that time has finally come as the shop has just pulled the cover off of ifs latest factory-commissioned one-off, the BMW x VAGABUND CE 02 — also known as the “eParkourer.”

The Basics

The eParkourer is a factory-backed one-off commission that takes the stocker’s sleek visual theme and cranks it up several notches. For its latest build, the shop opted to take a less-in-more approach. The bike is still readily identifiable as being a CE 02, though at the same time benefits from a host of minor tweaks that give it an even more unique appearance.

Maximalistic Mods

Though dozens of modifications have been made, Vagabund’s CE 02 has primarily been transformed through just a handful of key mods. Retaining the stock model’s aero wheel disc covers, the bike now boasts a custom suede saddle, a custom LED headlight capped off with a bespoke cowl, a custom rear mount carrying a Teenage Engineering OB-4 Magic Radio, and a bespoke perforated battery cover that’s positioned directly above a small perch-style luggage/gear rack.

The Vagabund crew has also bestowed the BMW with a fake high-mount scrambler-style exhaust with a faux muffler with a slide-out design that lets it house an umbrella in the shop’s signature yellow color. The CE 02’s normal floorboards have also been replaced with custom-machined items that, like the faux exhaust’s “heat shield,” feature a custom perforated motif.

Color Theory

Vagabund’s CE 02 uses color and different finishes in order to highlight and better differentiate certain aspects of the donor. For instance, the way the stock bike’s seat flows into its faux tank cover has now been separated into two distinctive items by trimming a new saddle in suede and painting the cover — along with the rest of the bike’s double-loop steel frame — in gloss black. Contrasted via a bare alloy battery cover, the powertrain is also blacked-out, allowing it to better blend in with the framework it rests in, one side of the front wheel color has been finished in white, and the build’s one-off front fender now sports a custom Vagabund-branded support bracket done in the shop’s signature yellow hue.

Hardware & Powertrain

Despite being Vagabundified, the eParkourer CE 02 presumably maintains the stock donor’s list of componentry and specs. This means a 29.5” seat height, a 291lb curb weight, a 53.2” wheelbase, multiple ride modes, J.Juan brakes with an ABS-equipped front unit, an inverted fork, a rear mono-shock, aero disc covers, a TFT display, a 48-volt battery with a 55-mile range and the ability to receive a 20% to 80% charge in 100 minutes, and what BMW refers to as an “externally excited” air-cooled synchronous motor that makes 11.18kW (15hp) and 40.5ft-lbs of torque and allows for a 0-30mph time of 3 seconds.

From The Horse’s Mouth

“We were immediately in love when we saw the CE 02 for the first time at the BMW Motorrad Days in Berlin,”explains Paul Brauchart, founder and managing director of Vagabund Moto. “The overall design of the CE 02 was simply a “perfect match” for us, as we at VAGABUND are always trying to break new ground and reinterpret existing products in our own way. In this project, we would define the general design approach as a “retro-future.” We tried to combine the very futuristic original design with some retro vibes and thus give the viewer a familiar feeling.”
