First introduced in 1986, BMW’s E30 M3 was a bonafide watershed model, offering cutting-edge, track-grade performance in a package that lent itself to use as a daily driver. Of all the variants produced of the E30 M3, the most advanced was the final Sport Evolution III-spec — one of which has just surfaced for sale.
One of only 600 examples produced between ’89 and ’90, this 1990 BMW E30 M3 Sport EVO III wears its original Brilliant Red paint livery and features the Group A homologation special’s upgraded 238-hp 2.5L four-cylinder “S14” engine, revised differential ratio, five-speed manual dog-leg transmission, 16-inch BBS alloy wheels, and a tweaked set of bodywork which includes markedly more pronounced front wings, adjustable spoilers fore and aft, and brake-cooling, duct-equipped front bumpers. The EVO III’s cabin also got thinner, lighter windows, Recaro front race seats with red seat belts, and a suede trim package that adorns the hand-brake, shift knob, and steering wheel. This particular specimen has also been treated to a variety of aftermarket upgrades such as a Stromung performance exhaust system, up-specced H&R Cup suspension, an upgraded oil cooling kit, a UUC short shifter, and a custom stereo with Bluetooth connectivity courtesy of Ai Design that features a restored, period-correct Alpine head unit and a one-off subwoofer and enclosure.
