Few cars in history have been as impactful as the Lamborghini Countach. While it wasn’t the first supercar — that designation is usually assigned to its direct predecessor, the Miura — it completely reshaped our idea of what a supercar could be when it debuted in 1974. Loud and brash with over-the-top exotic styling and second-to-none performance, the Countach was the ultimate dream car, which is why it enjoyed a two-and-a-half-decade run at the Raging Bull (not to mention a modern reboot).
To honor a quarter-century of the Countach, Lamborghini issued roughly 658 25th Anniversary additions of the car in the late 1980s before finally putting it out to pasture in ’90 upon introducing the Diablo — and one of those special Countaches has just hit the auction block at Bring a Trailer. This rare special-edition Countach represents possibly the ultimate version of the car, with modified bodywork by Horacio Pagani — eventual founder of fellow supercar maker Pagani — that includes Kevlar panels along with revisions to the rear bumper, engine lid, rocker panels, and, most notably, to the box air intakes, allowing for greater airflow to the engine.
Sitting behind the driver and in front of the iconic massive rear wing that was indicative of late-model Countaches is a 5.2-liter DOHC V12 outfitted with six Weber carbs that was factory-rated at 449 horsepower. That’s a 35-hp bump over fuel-injected Countaches of the same vintage, and the engine is mated to a five-speed manual gearbox. Finished in a perfect Pearl White on the exterior, the ‘80s vibes continue in the all-white ‘80s leather interior, which includes a Panasonic cassette player in the dash.
With an odometer showing just 11,500km (~7,100mi), this 25th Anniversary Lamborghini Countach has plenty of life left for its new owner. It’s currently up for auction at Bring a Trailer, where bidding has reached $631,000 as of this writing, with a week left remaining on the sale.
