The car collecting world has been down with a case of Ford Bronco fever for years now, culminating with the recent retro-themed revival of the model by the Blue Oval. Seemingly primed for the same sort of popularity is the K5 generation of the Chevy Blazer. A Bronco competitor back in the day, the K5 was a far cry from the modern crossover Blazer of today, and we’d love to see Chevy come up with a modern-day version of it.
But until that day arrives, we’re happy to get by with the original, and there’s a pretty fantastic example that’s currently up for auction on Bring a Trailer. This 1987 Chevy K5 Blazer Silverado has been modified pretty extensively but tastefully, making for one killer custom 4×4. Powered by a 383ci V8 crate engine with an Edelbrock intake manifold and air cleaner that’s mated to a four-speed automatic transmission, this Blazer features upgrades that include a significant suspension lift with Bilstein shocks, a dual exhaust system with stainless steel headers, and 20″ Moto Metal wheels fitted with 37×13.5″ Nitto Trail Grappler M/T tires.
The truck also boasts a custom roll bar, a cowl induction hood, and Dmax front and rear bumpers, with a Warn winch integrated into the front and a full-size spare tire mounted on the rear. The interior has also received a complete overhaul, with aftermarket heated bucket seats and gorgeous aged-looking brown leather covering not only the seats but also the dash, locking center storage console, and door panels. What’s more, a Pioneer touchscreen stereo has been installed along with JL Audio speakers.
With unknown mileage and removed emissions equipment (Bring a Trailer notes that this truck will not pass a California smog inspection), this K5 Blazer certainly isn’t for everybody — but we’re pretty big fans of it.
