Jeep’s First All-Electric SUV Makes 650 HP and Outguns the V8-Powered Wrangler 392

Jeep has been flirting with electrification for a while now — the Wrangler 4xe plug-in hybrid proved there’s appetite for electrons on the trail. But the 2026 Recon takes a bolder swing, ditching combustion entirely while keeping the brand’s open-air, go-anywhere ethos intact. Jeep’s first all-electric SUV is Trail Rated and ready to get muddy.

Dropping the V-8, Gaining the Watts

The powertrain tells you everything you need to know about Jeep’s priorities here. Dual electric drive modules — one at each axle — pump out 650hp and 620lb.ft of torque. For perspective, that’s more power than the Wrangler 392’s 6.4-liter Hemi ever dreamed of delivering. The Recon hits 60 mph in 3.6 seconds, which feels borderline absurd for something wearing 33-inch Nexen all-terrains. The rear motor gets a 15:1 final drive ratio on the Moab trim, multiplying torque for technical climbs, while an electronic locking rear differential keeps both wheels clawing for grip. There’s no front locker or traditional low-range transfer case, but the instant torque delivery from electric motors will certainly help you with crawling over rocks.

Trail-Ready Specs

Unlike the body-on-frame Wrangler, the Recon rides on unibody construction with a short-long arm front suspension and integral link rear setup. It’s a concession to on-road refinement without sacrificing capability, boasting 9.1″ of ground clearance, a 33.8-degree approach angle, and a 33.1-degree departure angle to handle most trails. The 100-kWh battery is sealed and shielded beneath steel skid plates, and yes, the doors come off without tools. Same goes for the rear quarter glass and swing gate.

The Tech Suite

Inside, the cabin balances utility with modern conveniences. A 12.3-inch digital cluster pairs with a 14.5-inch touchscreen running Uconnect 5, the largest display Jeep’s ever fitted. The Trails Offroad app now includes pitch and roll mapping, while speakers relocated under the seats ensure your Alpine audio system still works with the doors removed. Storage is plentiful, from the two-tiered center console to the 3-cubic-foot frunk and 65.9 cubic feet of rear cargo space with the seats folded.

Recap

2026 Jeep Recon All-Electric SUV

The 2026 Jeep Recon is Jeep’s first fully electric Trail Rated SUV, packing 650hp and removable doors while ditching the Wrangler’s body-on-frame setup for a more refined unibody platform. It starts at $65,000, hits 60 mph in 3.6 seconds, and proves electrification doesn’t mean sacrificing the open-air, go-anywhere spirit the brand built its reputation on.
