Though it sports a more unassuming appearance compared to most of its direct competitors, Porsche’s 911 is a bonafide supercar through and through. And as the supercar segment continues to make major strides in terms of power and performance, Porsche is now looking to maintain its position at the forefront of the space with the unveiling of the next evolutionary step for the Stuttgart marque’s fabled flagship, the all-new Porsche 911 GTS T-Hybrid — the first-ever production 911 to gain a hybrid drive system.
The Basics
For the 911’s latest model year, Porsche has bestowed its flagship offering with a major redesign and facelift —treatments given to both the new base model 911 Carrera, and the all-new 911 GTS. While the base model has received numerous updates, the more noteworthy vehicle is undoubtedly the 2025 model year 911 GTS, which represents the first-ever road-legal production 911 to feature a hybrid drive system — a race-derived setup that allows Porsche to take the GTS-spec’s performance to new heights.
The Powertrain
At the heart of the new Porsche 911 GTS is a 3.6-liter flat-six that’s been fitted with a turbocharger and a permanent magnet synchronous motor positioned between the compressor and turbine wheel. Generating 11kW (14.75hp) and over 110ft-lbs of torque on its own, this electric motor keeps the car’s turbo spooled up, plus can function as a generator. It also draws from an onboard lightweight Lithium-ion battery. Bolted to an eight-speed dual-clutch PDK transmission, the bored-out Boxer-six also benefits from Porsche’s VarioCam camshaft control.
Power & Performance
The entire purpose of the 911 adopting a hybrid drive system is to bolster performance without raising emissions — a brief that the marque has absolutely nailed. The turbocharged engine and electric motor together generate a very respectable 532hp and 449ft-lbs of torque. Coupled with a curb weight of as little as 3,550lbs — only 110lbs more than the non-hybrid variant — these power figures allow the first-ever hybrid 911 to clock 0-60mph runs in 2.9 seconds and reach a top speed of 194mph.
Face-Lifted Legend
For the latest iteration of its legendary sports car, Porsche has opted to give the 911 GTS several major visual tweaks. This means sharper, more futuristic lines all around, redesigned LED lighting fore and aft, new model-specific bumpers, and a redesigned front-end setup with new active intake flaps. The car is also offered in a slew of new wheel options — several of which are available with carbon aero discs. What’s more, the entire vehicle is also being sold with an optional aero kit that includes underbody-mounted adaptive front diffusers.
Upgraded Componentry
While the new hybrid turbo engine is unquestionably the most noteworthy aspect of the 2025 911 GTS, it’s not the only major change that the model has seen, as the car has also received a comprehensively redesigned suspension setup that comes paired with Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control and a variable damper system that allows ride height to be raised or lowered.
Moving Inside
Sporting a 2+2 configuration, the interior of the new 911 GTS marks the first version of the flagship to gain a fully digital instrument cluster. The cabin now boasts a 12.6” curved display that comes supplemented via a secondary 10.9” display. In addition to Apple CarPlay, the interior also gains a new cooled, smartphone compartment with built-in wireless charging, and the latest version of the Porsche Communication Management system.
The 911 Of The Future
There are several factors that make the 2025 911 GTS so incredibly special — including the fact that it represents the first-ever hybrid 911 in the car’s more than 60 years in production. More importantly, however, the first-ever hybrid 911 demonstrates Porsche’s commitment to delivering ultra-high-tech, state-of-the-art vehicles that benefit from contemporary tech and systems — all while staying true to the marque’s unwavering commitment to delivering a spirited, high-performance experience behind the wheel.
