Taking its name from a combination of the words “Art” and “Future,” the McLaren Artura is a state-of-the-art supercar that packs an advanced hybrid powertrain and otherworldly performance capabilities. And after spending a few years on the market, the elite British marque has now revealed a drop-top variant of its hybrid mid-engined masterpiece with the new McLaren Artura Spider.
Like the regular version of the Artura, the new Spider variant is constructed around the McLaren Carbon Fibre Lightweight Architecture — a setup that’s been paired with hot-formed aluminum bodywork, a double wishbone front suspension, and a multi-link rear — both of which benefit from the use of Proactive Damping Control. Other hardware highlights include an electronically-locking differential, and carbon ceramic brakes with six-piston calipers. Powering the Artura Spider is a 3.0-liter V6 engine that’s been bestowed with two turbochargers and an axial flux e-motor drawing from a Li-Ion battery. Good for 691hp and 531ft-lbs of toque, the powertrain ultimately allows this new drop-top to clock 0-60mph runs in three seconds flat and reach a top speed of over 200mph. Benefitting from a new Aerothermal cooling setup, the powertrain also features one of McLaren’s eight-speed seamless shift gearbox. The supercar is also able to deliver a purely electric range of more than 20 miles.
The Artura Spider boasts a retractable one-piece hard-top that operates electrically in just 11 seconds — and does so at speeds of up to 31mph. Offered with an available electrochromic roof panel option, the roof doesn’t lose any rigidity whether top up or top down. The drop-top version adds just 136lbs of weight compared to the coupe version. Tipping the scales at 3,439lbs at the curb, the Artura Spider is also the lightest convertible supercar in its class, weighing in at nearly 200lbs less than its closest competitor. McLaren’s first-ever high-performance hybrid convertible, the thing also features 160 liters of storage space.
Slated to hit roads in Q2 of this year, the 2025 McLaren Artura Spider has been priced starting from £221,500 (~ $280,900).
