Since debuting over a decade ago, the Subaru BRZ (along with its sister car the Toyota 86) has become one of the most enjoyable rear-wheel-drive sports coupes you could buy, and at an affordable price tag. We’ve seen concept versions tuned by the marque’s motorsports division STI (Subaru Tecnica International) and even a limited-to-500 run of a turbocharged version back in 2018, but we had yet to see a production-ready trim unhindered by edition size. Now, we’re happy to announce that Subaru has decided to give us the BRZ tS (an acronym for “Tuned by STI”) trim, coming out for the 2024 model year.
A month after the Toyota GR86 got its own performance package, the Subaru BRZ followed suit. Highlighting the upgrades, we get an STI-tuned suspension with Hitachi dampers on the front and rear, which improves the car’s handling, stability, and center of gravity. This is complemented with new dark gray 18-inch aluminum alloy wheels and the same high-performance Brembo braking system found on the new GR86 package with gold-painted front and rear calipers and larger pads and rotors, all of which enhance stopping power and pedal feel.
Certain tS badging and detailing have been given to the exterior too, including on the front grill and rear decklid. And while the tS trim will be available for any color for the 2024 BRZ model year, the foldable mirrors and roof-mounted shark fin antenna will feature a Crystal Black Silica finish. Equipped with more STI badging, the inside features blue upholstery stitching and red instrument panel accents only available for tS owners. And for the first time on any manual Subaru model, the EyeSight Driver Assist Technology includes lane keep assist, smart braking, and throttle control.
Expected to arrive in the first quarter of 2024, the Subaru BRZ tS doesn’t have a listed price yet, but anticipate it to be somewhere between $30,000 and $40,000.
