A couple of months back, Mercedes-Benz gave us a peek inside the upcoming sixth generation of its executive luxury sedan line. We were promised things like 5G connectivity, sound visualization, an AI-driven “routines” feature, and a better user experience overall. However, we had yet to get any performance figures or — with the exception of a teaser — images of the vehicle’s exterior. That is, until now, as the German marque has finally unveiled the 2024 E-Class.
As we mentioned, some of the tech features were revealed weeks ago, but Mercedes has also let us know that it’s replaced the Hyperscreen with the Superscreen — a touchscreen display that extends to the passenger side as well so they can watch videos and play games (and combat carsickness) while you’re driving. But don’t worry, there’s a privacy function so the driver won’t get distracted in the process. Speaking of distracted, the Superscreen comes equipped with a selfie and video camera and works with Mercedes’ MBUX infotainment system that now lets you access third-party apps to make Zoom calls, play Angry Birds, and watch TikTok. Similar to the tiles on your smartphone, the layout will be more intuitive. Mercedes is also excited about its faster automated parking feature which can now perform up to 2.5mph.
As for the exterior, it doesn’t look strikingly different from the outgoing series and the wheelbase is just 22mm longer. However, the trunk gets an extra 19cu.ft and the LED headlights get a slightly new design to go along with the illuminated radiator grill surrounds. The two trims announced so far are the E 350 and E 450, which come with a 2.0L four-cylinder with 255hp and a 3.0L six-cylinder with 375hp, respectively. Both engines feature a mild-hybrid boost system that can add 20hp and 148lb.ft of torque temporarily.
There’s still no pricing or release date for the 2024 E-Class, but buyers can expect it to come up for sale in the coming weeks. For comparison, the previous E-Class models retailed for around $60,000. Keep an eye on Mercedes-Benz’s website for updates.
