On July 11, 1994, BMW kicked off its production operations in Mexico for the first time, opening a plant in Lerma along with an accompanying corporate office in Mexico City to support the new factory. With this year marking the 30th anniversary of the opening of the Lerma Plant, the Bavarian brand has opted to celebrate the occasion via a limited run of BMW M2 Coupé 30 Years Edition.
The Basics
Built in Mexico for the Mexican market, BMW’s M2 Coupé 30 Years Edition — or M2 Coupé Edición 30 Años as it’s known south of the border — is a commemorative limited edition that gains a host of model-exclusive details.
The Exterior
Riding on ten-arm split-spoke wheels, this limited edition model is offered in two different unique livery options in the form of Individual Frozen Portimao Blau metallic or BMW Individual Frozen Pure Grey metallic. Both paint jobs are complemented via special 30 Years Edition badges.
The M2 Coupé’s Cabin
The M2 Coupé 30 Years Edition’s doors open to reveal a performance-focused cabin with carbon fiber-reinforced bucket seats trimmed in Merino leather, and an Alcantara-wrapped M Sports steering wheel with red M Drive buttons. M color inserts also adorn the dash and door panels.
Two Turbos & Six Cylinders
At the heart of this daily-drivable track weapon is BMW’s twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six. Benefitting from BMW’s M TwinPower Turbo tech, this intercooled six-banger features an electronically-controlled blowoff valve and revs at up to 7,200rpm. Good for 480hp and 405ft-bs of torque — all of which is sent to the car’s rear wheels — the 30 Year Edition’s engine is offered exclusively with a six-speed manual. The powertrain also benefits from the use of BMW’s M traction control and active M differential.
