If the Super Bowl’s salvo of electric car commercials wasn’t enough of an indicator, the age of electric vehicles is officially upon us. Automakers throughout the industry are making a mad dash to convert all of their cars to electric drivetrains while also loading their next-generation vehicles with innovative tech. While we’ve seen several different all-electric vehicles from German automotive giant Mercedes-Benz and its high-performance AMG division, another new model has now joined the fray as the marque’s latest electric performance sedan.
On the outside, the AMG EQE looks more or less like your typical, gorgeous AMG sedan, however, its new and obscenely powerful electric drivetrain makes this sporty four-door a stalwart performance vehicle. This new sedan features two electric motors, one on each axle, to produce a jaw-dropping 617HP and 701LB-FT of torque. The behemoth power launches this state-of-the-art family vehicle to 60mph in just 3.4 seconds. If that doesn’t get your kids to school on time, we don’t know what will.
The EQE’s over-the-top performance specs come courtesy of the rear motor’s six-phase design, as well as its herculean 328-volt high-performance drive battery that has a usable energy content of 90.6 kWh. Its innovative energy storage system can charge the EQE to a 112-mile range in a quick 15-minute period, which is more than enough for an average commute. For smooth driving and optimal performance, the EQE also boasts AMG’s RIDE CONTROL+ air suspension that leverages continuously variable control valves to adjust the damping force to each wheel in real-time. What’s more, the EQE offers the driver a selection of five AMG DYNAMIC SELECT drive programs: Slippery, Comfort, Sport, Sport+, and Individual.
Design-wise, the EQE is sleek, contemporary, and features an AMG-specific black panel grille with chromed vertical slats. Its interior extends its sporty theme with classic AMG design elements, special seat covers in MB-Tex with microfiber, and an optional hyperscreen. Mercedes-AMG has yet to release pricing information or a release window for the EQE, but you can learn more about the car at the brand’s site.
