Nothing breeds innovation quite like competition — a point that’s wonderfully demonstrated by today’s electric vehicle sector. With a handful of already established key players and an ever-growing number of startups popping up each year, staying at the forefront of the industry has increasingly required envelope-pushing performance and capabilities — traits that Lucid Motor’s newest automotive offering possesses in spades.
Christened the Lucid Air Grand Touring Performance, this model replaces the existing Dream Edition as the California carmaker’s top-of-the-line model variant. Riding on a set of 21” Aero Sport wheels shod in Pirelli P-Zero rubber, the GT Performance model features a dual electric motor setup that generates a whopping 1,050hp — and presumably equally impressive torque figures — that allow it to clock 0-60-mph runs in only 2.6-seconds, giving it quicker acceleration than some of the world’s fastest hypercars — including the Koenigsegg Agera RS, McLaren Speedtail, and Hennessey Venom GT — and making it the most powerful electric vehicle currently available in the North America market.
Despite its otherworldly performance capabilities, the Lucid Air GT Performance still manages to afford an EPA-estimated driving range of 446 miles. Alongside the ultra-capable Performance-spec, Lucid is also going to be producing a regular Air Grand Touring model that packs 819hp, a 3-second 0-60 time, and an industry-leading EPA-estimated range of up to 516 miles. This performance has been made possible through the use of Lucid Motor’s own proprietary EV powertrain and battery pack technology, all of which have been developed entirely in-house.
The 2023 Lucid Air Grand Touring Performance is scheduled to begin deliveries in June and will carry an MSRP of $179,000, while the 2023 Lucid Air Grand Touring will start at $139,000.
