Lincoln is one of the most storied American automotive companies. While the Motor City automaker is a staple in the American luxury space, they also have a strong presence abroad, especially in China. Given the massive scope of China’s automotive market, their surging growth of a middle class, and Lincoln’s popularity there, the automaker decided to release a new take on an old favorite as a Chinese-exclusive offering: the Zephyr.
The 2022 Lincoln Zephyr made its worldwide debut at Auto Guangzhou 2021 and is the company’s first locally produced sedan in China for the Chinese market. The large sedan is Lincoln’s strategy to appeal to China’s large Gen Z population while also building on their momentum as one of the country’s premier luxury brands. With a design approach centered around intelligent mobility, the Lincoln Zephyr features a contemporary and elegant design that employs Lincoln’s signature horizontal design language to make the car appear wider. When designing the Zephyr, Lincoln wanted to incorporate their philosophy of “Quiet Flight DNA” which revolves around the themes of Beauty, Gliding, Human, and Sanctuary. From a technological perspective, Lincoln outfitted the Zephyr with an intelligent digital cockpit in “a relaxing sanctuary with lightweight design elements” to meet the connectivity demands of the Gen Z population. Moreover, practically all of the buttons located on the console feature a smart, natural surface to appeal to the consumers’ desire for a quieter, smoother experience.
The Zephyr boasts a 12.3-inch digital cluster with a 27-inch coast-to-coast touchscreen that supports customizable displays and allows consumers to share or split the screen. Even better, the Lincoln Zephyr has four relaxing modes, digital scents, and 128 different colors for interior ambient lighting options. Lincoln has yet to release performance specifications, pricing information, and a hard release date, but the Zephyr is expected to go on sale in China in early 2022.
