Despite the size and scope of the automotive space, there are several examples of iconic cars that can accurately be described as game-changing. One such car that completely revolutionized the muscle car era, as well as Ford’s legacy of making them, was the original 1967 Mustang Shelby GT500. Its ruggedly stylish design and awe-inspiring performance specifications made it an instant classic that people still lose their minds about today. More than half a century later, Ford is honoring the car that defined a generation with the release of the 2022 Mustang Shelby GT500 Heritage Edition.
Though just a few years past its golden year birthday, the 2022 Mustang Shelby GT500 Heritage Edition celebrates the 55th anniversary of its original model. The Mustang Shelby GT500 Heritage Edition is a limited-release model whose gorgeous exterior features a Brittany Blue paint job and two stripe options that come in Wimbledon White: a hand-painted one or a vinyl version. Unfortunately, the hand-painted stripe doesn’t come automatically with the Shelby GT500 Heritage edition; it’ll cost you a cool $10,000, which if you can afford it, is worth the five figures. GT500 fans will also be happy to find the unique Shelby Cobra logo featured proudly on the front grille of the car. Under the hood, Ford made sure that the Mustang Shelby GT500 Heritage Edition offered the same level of power that the standard GT500 provides. It features a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission along with a supercharged 5.2L V8 engine with an impressive 760hp and 625lb-feet of torque.
While the Shelby GT500 has gone through several different permutations throughout its storied history, the 2022 Heritage Edition is a clear, worthy successor to the iconic original. You can expect the 2022 Mustang Shelby GT500 to retail for more than $71,000, and Ford is opening orders for it on November 15.
