Ferraris and hypercars go hand-in-hand with each other. It’s no secret at all that the Italian automotive powerhouse has a storied history of excellence in both production cars and competitive racing. Given its track record both literally and metaphorically, it should come as no surprise that Ferrari has drawn upon its racing pedigree to inspire its street-legal cars. With that theme in mind, the Italian automaker has dazzled the world yet again with the release of their latest limited edition hypercar: the Ferrari Daytona SP3 Icona.
The Daytona SP3 Icona is aptly named after the Ferrari’s historic win at the 24 Hours of Daytona on February 6 1967. Despite being on American soil, Ferrari completely swept the race, placing first, second, and third, making racing history in the process. Given the gravity of the win, the Daytona SP3 Icona pays homage to the iconic cars that won the Daytona in both aesthetics and performance. It features a monstrous naturally-aspirated V12 mid-rear-mounted engine that produces about 828hp and a stout 514lb-ft of torque, with a redline of 9,500 rpm. This powerful engine allows the hypercar to achieve a 0-62mph sprint in 2.85 seconds and a 0-124mph time of just 7.4 seconds. Keeping in line with the racing motif, Ferrari used composite materials featuring Formula 1 technology to build the chassis of the Daytona SP3 Icona. This design choice resulted in a seat that makes the driver feel as if they are operating a true competition car.
In order to maximize its performance capabilities, Ferrari employed passive aero solutions when researching and designing the Daytona SP3 Icona, which led the design team of Ferrari to develop a sleek, modernistic body that utilizes unprecedented features, such as chimneys that extract low-pressure air from the underbody. This gorgeous car also features butterfly doors, which have an airbox integrated into them to channel air to the side-mounted radiators. Ferrari has yet to announce pricing or production information for the Ferrari Daytona SP3 Icona.
