Ducati secured its first win at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb in 2011 with Carlin Dunne at the helm of a Multistrada 1200, one year before becoming the first motorcyclist to break the 10-minute barrier on the 156-turn mountain course. To celebrate the team’s success, the Italian firm has been releasing limited edition Pikes Peak versions of the Multistrada each year since. And while Dunne earned Ducati another PPIHC win in 2018, he would tragically die after crashing one of Ducati’s prototype Streetfighters at Pikes Peak in June of 2019, only a few corners from the finish line. And while motorcycles are now no longer permitted to compete in the so-called “Race To The Clouds,” Ducati has nonetheless opted to debut an ultra-sporty version of its adventure-touring machine with the 2022 Multistrada V4 Pikes Peak.
The Pikes Peak Edition Multi has received a slew of tweaks that collectively make for a markedly sportier and high-performance riding experience. This includes smaller forged aluminum 17″ Marchesini wheels front and aft, a single-sided swing-arm, revised, more aggressive ergonomics, a full titanium Akrapovic exhaust system with a carbon fiber end-cap, semi-active Öhlins Smart EC 2.0 suspension, an electronics package that now includes a dedicated race mode, and Brembo Stylema calipers, just to name but a few. Liberal use of carbon fiber for various parts has also resulted in weight savings of 8lbs. At the heart of the limited-edition model is Ducati’s 170-hp 1,158cc V4 Granturismo engine. Completing the package is a special-edition livery inspired by Ducati’s MotoGP team bikes, as well as its previous Pikes Peak Racers.
Available now, the 2022 Ducati Multistrada V4 Pikes Peak is priced at $28,995. Ducati has yet to reveal figures on production numbers, but it is assumed that, just like with previous iterations of the LE model, the Multistrada V4 Pikes Peak will be produced in very limited numbers.
