In an age where everything is being futurized, electrified, and streamlined, a nod to the classics can be a breath of fresh air. In this sense, the breath of fresh air comes from British boutique automaker, David Brown Automotive, whose eponymous automotive company has created a cult following for its 60s-era Aston Martin-inspired cars. The boutique brand made waves in the automotive space in 2013 when it created its iconic Speedback GT, and almost ten years later, DBA has made a new Speedback Silverstone Edition luxury grand tourer that redefines the car through a bespoke lens.
Taking a jaw-dropping 8,000 hours to build, the new Speedback Silverstone Edition is a hand-built automotive work of art. It sports a sleek, aluminum body with an elegant black metallic finish over an “oyster leather” interior. The hand-painting of the glimmering exterior alone took a whopping eight weeks to complete and serves as an excellent canvas for the gorgeous milled aluminum brightwork that is chrome-plated and hand-brushed to pop. To take its opulence one step further, the new Speedback features monochrome badges that were hand-crafted by artisanal jewelers from Birmingham.
Its interior is similarly luxurious, sporting optional heating or cooling seats that are complemented with intricate broguing elements throughout the cockpit. Open-pore wood elements on the dash and door cards add refinement and character to the interior while the brushed chrome metalwork and jet-inspired air vents are a welcomed homage to the racing past of the car’s namesake. The addition of picnic seats in the back is an added personal touch that was requested from the client, and a welcome one at that for what may be the ultimate British grand tourer.
Powering this gorgeous car is a twin-scroll supercharged 5.0L V8 engine with a stout output of 601hp, a 0-60 time of just 4.2 seconds, and a commendable top speed of 155mph. While this particular build was a one-off for a bespoke client, David Brown Automotive plans on building ten of these magnificent automobiles in total.
