Deus Ex Machina is far more than a mere custom motorcycle shop and clothing company. Now boasting a global presence with brick-and-mortar locations scattered across the planet, DxM is a bonafide lifestyle brand that aims to produce builds and goods that actually inspire its followers. Case in point, Deus’ latest one-off motorcycle — a ruggedized street-scrambler-style KTM Duke 200 that was built to motivate its audience into taking off-grid two-wheeled adventures.
Dubbed the “Beluga XM,” this custom Duke 200 was built by Tomoyuki Soeda at Deus Japan. Taking its name from the “dolphin-shaped” single-piece integrated fiber-reinforced plastic tank and tail section combo, the Beluga XM was designed to take on light off-roading while still being good for short freeway stints and trips through the city. As such, the small displacement donor has been gifted a set of Bridgestone AX41 knobbies, a high-mounted front fender, a removable rear luggage rack, a detachable headlight guard and front luggage rack, and a removable side-mounted surfboard carrier.
Complementing the custom FRP bodywork is a one-off subframe that supports the removable rear luggage rack. The truncated tail section has also been capped off with a custom single-passenger, diamond-quilted leather seat. Soeda has also bestowed the KTM with a wrap-around swing-arm-mounted license plate bracket, a Highsider LED taillight, a circular LED headlight, and braced MX-style bars wrapped in new grips and equipped with a single circular drop-down mirror. The Beluga XM’s finishing touch came in the form of a bespoke white and orange livery — a modified, pastel take on the Ready To Race brand’s signature colorway.
Currently on display at Hakone Bikers Paradise until the end of the month, Deus Ex Machina Japan’s 2012 KTM Duke 200-based ‘Beluga XM’ build is currently for sale, with an asking price of ¥1,680,000 (~ $11,800).
