While it’s hard to believe that the 1990s were already 30 years ago, we can officially start appreciating the era’s glorious line of supercars. The iconic decade gave birth to a host of incredible cars, including the McLaren F1, Jaguar XJ220, Lamborghini Diablo, and Mercedes-Benz CLK GTR, to name but a few. One particular vehicle that sat near the top of the decade’s formidable supercar heap was the Ferrari F50, one of the crowning achievements of the Italian automaker. Now, one of the few precious F50s ever made is up for private sale on RM Sotheby’s, giving you the chance to live your ’90s supercar dreams.
Ferrari described the F50’s stratospheric performance capabilities best when it said that the car was the “closest thing to a road-going Formula 1 car the company had ever built.” As its name shows, Ferrari made the F50 to celebrate the company’s 50th anniversary, so it’s no wonder at all that the automaker gave it behemoth power and tremendous handling. Sporting a mid-mounted, naturally aspirated 4.7L V12 engine with a stalwart 513hp and 347lb-ft of torque, the Ferrari F50 had a blistering top speed over 200mph and a 0-60 sprint of just 3.6 seconds. These insane specs were possible, in part, due to the F50’s lightweight carbon fiber monocoque chassis.
The particular specimen for sale is a 1997 F50 that is one of only eight converted to right-hand drive by Pininfarina. That augmentation makes this F50 even rarer than a typical F50, which is already an elusive car to find as only 349 examples were made between 1995 and 1997. Design-wise, this F50 features the classic Rosso Corsa finish over a black leather interior and boasts 18-inch Speedline magnesium alloy wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport tires.
This 1997 Ferrari F50 is a classic driver’s car that’s in superb condition. It has a well-documented history of ownership and maintenance, with a new left and right roll bar being some of the only major updates. Drivers interested in purchasing this highly sought-after vehicle can inquire on RM Sotheby’s website for pricing information.
