Now routinely selling for over $250,000, 1960s-era Alfa Romeo Giulia GTA examples that were built by the Italian marque’s Auto Delta race department have become some of the most sought-after vintage Italian cars on the planet. And while genuine Auto Delta-built GTA specimens seldom come up for sale, a stunning 1965 example has just recently surfaced at an exotics dealership in Germany.

Leaving the factory in June of 1965, this Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint model was originally built to road-spec, but after trading hands was turned over to Auto Delta which built the car back up to full GTA specification — after which time it was campaigned extensively in a myriad of races. Like all GTA-spec examples, the majority of this GTA 1600’s bodywork is crafted from 1mm-thick Peraluman 25 — an aluminum, magnesium, manganese, and zinc-based alloy that was custom-developed by Alfa’s in-house “Servizio Esperienze Carpenteria” department.

Powering the Alfa is a high-revving, twin-plug, 1,570cc four-cylinder engine that generates around 115hp. Tipping the scales at 450lbs lighter than than a standard Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GT, this GTA-spec model weighs in at only 1,607lbs in ready-to-race condition. Boasting an unbroken chain of documented ownership from new, this ’65 specimen was also more recently treated to a spare-no-expense, ground-up restoration that saw the entire vehicle meticulously and completely rebuilt. Riding on an original set of race wheels, the Alfa also wears a classic Rosso Corsa livery, complete with white race numbers of Quadrifoglio badges.

Sold with fresh FIA papers and a Swiss Veteran title, this Auto Delta-built 1965 Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GTA 1600 race car is currently being sold through Weekend Heroes in Munich, Germany. The price of this Italian-built automotive icon is available upon request — though we anticipate it boasting an asking price of somewhere between $250,000 and $400,000.
