Backpacks and slings are certainly not going anywhere, but these days it feels like low-profile function is the name of the game for most people. If you’ve been acquiescently lugging around some sort of bag, wishing you could ditch it altogether, Peak Design may have come up with the perfect solution.

A Brand Built on Not Settling
Peter Dering started Peak Design out of a simple frustration of hauling his camera around the world. Feeling like there was a better solution, he launched a Kickstarter-funded camera clip that set the tone for everything the brand has done since. That same ethos runs through every product they’ve released in the 15-plus years since: if something already exists and it isn’t good enough, build a better one.

More Than a Fashion Statement
Expanding its groundbreaking Mobile line of smartphone solutions, which debuted in 2020 is the new Mobile Straps lineup. Far from the trendy, Apple-commissioned Issey Miyake knitted phone pockets we saw last year, the Mobile Straps are more function than form. They come in three distinct configurations, each anchored by the same Micro Anchor connection system — a high-strength thermoplastic cord-and-pill design rated to 50lbs of force.

Three Straps, One Solution
At the entry level is the Mobile Cuff, a wrist strap that hooks up to your phone or camera, cinching automatically if you drop it with an aluminum stopper to set your minimum loop length. The rope diameter here is 5mm, slightly slimmer than the crossbody options, which keeps it from feeling bulky on your wrist. But it’s still built from the same custom basket-woven nylon/poly rope as its siblings.
Next is the Mobile Crossbody Strap, the most versatile of the three. Designed to be tangle-free thanks to its two-point Micro Anchor attachment, the strap can convert to single-point carry with the accessory loop hardware and can also be adjusted with one hand. It runs from 35″ to 65″ adjustable.

The top tier option is the Mobile Crossbody Multi-Strap, which adds a CNC-machined anodized aluminum carabiner that locks shut and holds up to three Micro Anchors simultaneously. This is for people who just want to transpose everything from their pockets to their person, like keys, earbuds, a compact camera, etc. It’s the closest thing to a pocket solution that still lives outside your pocket.
All three include a universal adapter for compatibility with virtually any third-party phone case (requires a fully-enclosed USB-C port slot), and integrate natively with Peak Design cases and Apple iPhone 17 cases.

Recap
Peak Design Mobile Straps
Peak Design just dropped three new mobile straps — the Cuff, Crossbody Strap, and Crossbody Multi-Strap — ranging from $30 to $60, and they’re built around the brand’s new Micro Anchor system for quick, secure attachment to pretty much any phone or compact camera. It’s Peak Design’s take on bag-free carry, and predictably, they stuck the landing.
